I think the beam pattern is wider than with the Morimoto bulbs, and the 6000K temperature really reflects off road signs and makes them very easy to read. The result is they work great with the Morimoto ballasts, with no flickering at all. The Kensuns also use AMP connectors so they plug directly into the Morimoto wiring. It is interesting how the Kensun kit works well on an ES350 but flickers on the Avalon.Īnyway, I was very impressed with the output and overall light quality, so I ordered a pair of 9005 Kensun 6000K HID bulbs from Amazon for $20 to give them a try. The aim appears correct and I haven't had oncoming vehicles flashing me. The beams are extremely bright without any shadows or hotspots, and have a very wide beam spread, providing both the distance and peripheral illumination that I was looking for. I was skeptical when I powered everything on but - NO flickering! A quick test-drive on the interstate revealed the truly superior white light coverage these units provide. The self-contained relay harness was very easy to install, and all the components and connectors are labeled for a true plug and play experience. When I unpacked the kit it was obvious that the Morimoto product is of far better quality than any of the other kits. Brian recommended the 35watt 5500K Morimoto Elite Xenon HID Kit for the Avalon. I eventually connected with Brian at HID Kit Pros and explained my previous issues. This is definitely a better solution than any of the LED kits at a similar price, if it works in the intended vehicle. They eventually agreed to a return and refund which was a pity because the illumination was good, and there were no shadows. Kensun's technical support team was extremely responsive and helpful, and offered everything to resolve the flickering. Unfortunately when installed they flickered which I found surprising considering that I read many positive reviews on the Kensun kits on Toyota Camrys and Lexus ES350s which basically has the same electrical system. The ballasts were supplied with mounting brackets, and the relay and wiring harness was plug and play, except for the exposed resistors that require heat sinking. The Kensun salespeople were very helpful, and the kit was of good quality for the price. They were a good solution but didn't provide the additional peripheral coverage that I was looking for, and have since found a home in the high beams.Īttempt number four was a 35watt 6000K Kensun HID kit. My third attempt was with a pair of Philips X-treme Vision halogens which were a huge improvement over stock, and far better than either of the LED kits at a fraction of the cost. Support was good, but nothing Heise suggested made a difference. ![]() Despite my multiple attempts at adjustment, the light distribution was very poor with hotspots and shadows in various areas. ![]() They appeared to be of good quality, however they were very difficult to install because the metal tabs did not align well with the headlight sockets. The bulbs use a radial heat sink and all-metal housings with built-in drivers and provide a 360 degree adjustment. Subsequently I installed a Heise fanless LED headlight kit. Headlightexperts eventually agreed to a refund. One of the bulbs came loose rotating freely in the headlamp housing, and as a result the bulb was extremely difficult to remove. The fans also emitted a high-pitched whine which was very noticeable. The beam was bright, but cast multiple shadows in the central area, and light distribution was generally uneven. A single 9005 halogen bulb is behind two projector lenses on each side, and the bulbs themselves are inclined at 45 degrees in the headlamp housing. ![]() A few months ago I purchased a 2018 Toyota Avalon and loved everything about it except for the poor low beam halogen headlights - and Toyota have eliminated fog lamps! The Avalon has a somewhat unusual design for its low beams, which may explain some of the problems I encountered with the various kits.
